He describes the history of the language within its fantasy world, sounds, writings systems, historical phonology, mutations, the various parts of speech, compounds, loanwords, and syntax. This book is a wonderful, in-depth guide to Sindarin!! Nonetheless, it has not been the more-easily-documented Quenya that many linguistically-minded Tolkien enthusiasts this reviewer included have been instinctively, even emotionally, drawn to find out more about through the decades; instead, it has been specifically Third-Age Sindarin—as spoken, say, in Denethor’s Minas Tirith, or in Elrond’s Rivendell; in other words, David Salo’s “Classical Sindarin”—which has proven to be the elusive object of desire.

Refresh sindsrin try again. It’s an excellent book and I only hope we might one day see a matching volume for Quenya.
Like his other languages, Sindarin was a new invention, not based on any existing or artificial language. Built on the Johns Hopkins University Campus. It will not help you learn how to speak Sindarin, but it aindarin give you an appreciation for Tolkien’s intellectual achievement in its invention.
