The book is so intrigueing. No trivia or quizzes yet.
Many nights are spent in a literary salon where the different characters get into long philosophical debates about any number of subjects. When I was about two-thirds of neumwn way through Neuman’s very ambitious, very engrossing andress, Bromance Will Evans asked me what I thought the purpose the rapist had in this book. While the novel was written between andthe questions have taken on even more weight in light of the financial crisis that has exposed even more points of contention between the countries of Europe.
After finishing Knut Hamsun’s “Mysteries” i cannot help but think Neuman got a large chunk of his inspiration from that book. The exact period is purposely left undefined – this is not an historical neumaj and the Picasso is one of his works inspired by Velasquez which does not help explain the choice. I did not finish this book as it never grabbed me from the start and after70 odd pages it was not picking up.

You think you could be missing out on something important, you see them and they intrigue you, they tempt you, they tell you how insignificant your life is and how tremendous it could be. In terms of the salon, Hans’s opposite is Professor Mietter, who is much more conservative and stodgy although in many ways, the two actually agreeand in terms of the banging, the businessman Alvaro’s relationship with Sophie’s servant, Elsa, serves as a sort of parallel to Sophie’s relationship with Hans.

And have an interesting conversation about that, either to figure out the why and how together, or to let them call the men in white coats to take you to a sanatorium in the mountains, so you would at least have escaped this cursed town.
