My detachment to the characters was also one of the factors why this book didn’t make me feel anything. A lot of my friends are unimpressed by verse novels or don’t care to read them because it’s not their style. I am actually a bit surprised that I did finish it. Do you have a particular time of year when you wonder what and what-if and whether you should keep on logging word after word in hopes of creating a story worthy of sharing with the world?

It did seem to switch a bit too far though, almost as if Sara was writing about it years later and interspersing new found wisdom throughout her narrative. Though they develop an emotional connection at the start of their romance, it becomes much more about their physical involvement than anything else.

I don’t know, she wasn’t happy? But Rem inspires Sara as well to question her own path. She staaia so much but has the greatest inability to voice them out. I also think this book might be more meaningful to someone who is a dancer. He embodies everything she thought she wanted, in ballet and in life, and when he falls short, he takes her dreams with him. I’m talking about the lack of beginning middle and ending of the story.


Rem himself is a walking metaphor; Sara knows her school is second-class, and by extension so is Rem. That, in the end, the protagonist emerges not merely more or less triumphant over mortality or adition or agnostic despair but, also with a sense that things will take a turn for the better.
