No wonder many people still look at math students as possessing a form of ‘genius’ that is both threatening and alienating at the same time. I’m a software developer and have had my interests in Mathematics for quite some time now.
Gardner covers some of the issues that have been addressed in the teaching of higher math, and he makes no bones about the need to encourage rather than discourage those who can most benefit from having a practical knowledge of this powerful mathematical tool.
Good introduction book to the concepts of calculus. Overall, it serves my intended purpose of refreshing myself and solidifying the concepts I learnt in high school, which I learnt by rote-learning then.

I was attracted to this book by its title, which struck me as unusual forwhen my edition was published, and its contents didn’t disappoint.
I myself learned calculus in much the same way as it is presented in this book, only a century later. If you want to learn calc, or need a refresher, this book is indispensable. Then I would realize what both of them were trying to say.
Good, this is making a comeback. Of all the math books I’ve read, this one is by far the most exciting. These points also help you know how the definitions or the problems.

Its available for free with Project Gutenberg. About this particular edition, print quality is poor. It’s certainly not “rigorous” by a long shot, but it does what it sets out to do: Silvanus Thompson did an amazing job with explaining a possibly complicated subject with great detail and made each point crystal clear.

How refreshing to see that calculus can wasy taught in something pages instead of the modern bricks. Very British and sensible, and a much better approach to teaching mathematics to children or, in my case, 28 year olds. These changes will probably have made it more desirable to the modern audience. It turned out to not be at all what I’m looking for yet I am rating it 5 stars! Martin Gardner has updated and revised the latest edition. There are so many things I wish had been done to illuminate the subject more thoroughly, but perhaps one day I’ll have to write it myself.
I know I didn’t. It would’ve made it the book better if it had a chapter on Limits as well. Calculus Made Easy demystifies the concepts and clearly explains the symbols and language of differentiation and integration.
