Diarries exists here is either a massive retcon of the tv series, or author Candace Bushnell decided that the Carrie she wrote the original Sex and the City had a very different past that she'[d never covered. For example, Carrie fights a lot with her younger sister and so do I. Seventeen-year-old Carrie is just beginning her senior year in high school, and like all girls she falls for the gorgeous bad boy, Sebastian Kydd.

Jun 14, Kris rated it it was amazing Shelves: It has been years since I tried to read a tge version of Bushnell’s Sex and the City, and I never got past the few first chapters The Carrie Diaries is your average young adult novel with the school and relationship drama, but there is elements, and often moments, that makes it stand out from all the rest.
She falls in love with the dreamy new boy, Sabastian Kydd. Books by Candace Bushnell. We learn about stuff like how she feels about being left out when all of her friends seem to be doing the deed and smoking cigarettes. I had never picked up any of Candace Bushnell’s books, neither had I ever watched the Sex and the City drama series during its original run on TV. So, I enjoyed learning how Carrie became the goddess she was in my eyes.
It was a short book and pretty easy to read. And most importantly — how did she meet her fabulous trio of gal pals? The Carrie Diaries opens up in Carrie’s senior year of high school. This sharply observant, keenly funny comedy of manners is Bushnell at her most sassy and entertaining. I can get over that. Carrie Bradshaw is a senior in high school in a small town. I’d probably pick up the next book in the series sometime in the future. It totally held my attention and was a pretty quick read for me. Have no idea why I even bothered to open this book. Candace Bushnell is the critically acclaimed, international best-selling novelist whose first book, Sex and the City, published inwas the basis for the HBO hit series.
Considering the book bushnfll set in the 80s, I wasn’t expecting it but I was happy to see the representation. It was really refreshing, especially in this genre which I think typically has bland protagonists who possess little or no faults.
Carrie’s final decision to not attend Brown University contributes to her living with her eventual lifelong friend Samantha Jones.
