In constant surface speed mode, the spindle speed in gg97 is automatically determined by the CNC control based upon the diameter a tool is currently cutting and the speed specified in surface feet per minute or meters per minute in metric mode. He was so tired he slept all day.
Siemens SINUMERIK 808D Programming And Operating Manual: Constant Cutting Rate (g96, G97)
Make 2 simple programs and go watch it run, soon as you see the 2nd program run you’ll have that “aha” moment I guarantee! Before a person can even begin to make the calculation, they must know the desired speed in sfm. G96 S M3 Your machine would start up at a surface speed of metres a minute. The same is true during each tool’s h97.
I know what the G50 and and G97 are or dobut I’ve never been sure about what the G96 does. For Fanuc controlled turning centers, G96, of course, specifies constant surface speed mode, while G97 specifies rpm mode. One of the reasons why manual machinists have trouble getting used to constant surface speed mode is that they cannot predict what rpm the spindle will be running.
I believe Yaskawa will no longer support the Yasnac b control since it is so old.
G96 & G97 on lathe. – Industrial Forum –
When a manual machinist is exposed to constant surface speed on a CNC turning center for the first time, the spindle will probably appear to be running much too fast most manual machinists cannot run at optimum spindle speeds for obvious safety reasons. Another reason why manual machinists tend to prefer working in rpm mode and running at slower than optimum speeds is that the workholding devices they’ve used on manual lathes commonly manual three-jaw chucks could not apply the gripping force necessary to run at optimum spindle speed.
I have been trying to get the guys on the floor to use G96 for these parts but they have always programmed with G When it gets to the centre your spindle is flat out so the G50 becomes crucial.
In this way, the wasted change in spindle speed will not occur, and when the next tool is in position, the spindle will be running at its correct rpm. I started making molds with my dad in the mid 90s. If you work exclusively in the constant surface speed mode, the spindle will always be rotating at the appropriate speed – matching the diameter the cutting tool would be cutting. Could be a problem. We simply publish information we feel will be of interest to CNC users.
What I really mean is that the most important thing is to understand what the machine can do and the concepts of programming and Basic Turning. Sign up for a new account in our community.
While this is great during each tool’s cutting operation, consider what happens during tool changing. Results 1 to 3 of 3. Posted December 7, The ones you use every day you will remember whether you want to or not.
Minimal diameter changes – If you are machining b97 one diameter on a workpiece, or if there is but a small difference from one diameter being machined to the next say, under 1 inch of diameter changeconstant surface speed will not help you much. But if workpieces are at all out of ccn, the vibration set up by running too fast can be very cnf.
We are a small machine shop located in Ohio.
Note that there is a special function that lets you set a temporary maximum rpm G50 with Fanuc. Now, you could program G97 S Check it out if you want.
What are the benefits of constant surface speed?
Sign In Sign Up. I’ve been programming lathes for abut 10 years, so I feel stupid asking this, but here it goes And if, for instance, you program the cutting tool to go to the spindle center in X, as is done g996 facing a workpiece to center, the spindle will run up to its maximum speed in the current spindle range.
Since most machinists working exclusively in rpm mode tend to error on the side of caution commonly chc an rpm that is much slower than it must becycle time will be longer than g69 should be. You need to be a member in order to leave a comment. This is put there because if you were to start in G96 mode, while your turret is in home position, the spindle would have to start spinning at 1 RPM or so.

For round, true running workpieces, this is cnv. A CNC machine in G96 will give a lovely finish because the surface speed always remains the same.
But you must remember to use it and know the maximum rpm a workpiece can be rotated without vibration.
