Glad gurl rated it it was ok Jan 28, It felt too much like reading ji.packeer a textbook. Packer was never going to write a book as good as Romans. Although often billed as an academic theologian I’ve struggled to figure how what original theological ideas Packer has contributed in this book or elsewhere – perhaps someone could help me out?

Written in an engaging and ij.packer tone, this thought-provoking work seeks to transform and enrich the Christian understanding of God. I adore truths about God and really wanted to finish but I have concluded that since I am not enjoyin I am stopping on page of this book. Knowing Ii.packer is a matter of personal dealing – each person has their own relationship 8.
While I’m not going to argue against including plenty of proof texts, listing them all in the mainline instead of footnotes makes for a jarring reading experience. That is pure rubbish.
I’m not sure what this book sought to achieve, then, except perhaps to harken back to a supposed bygone glorious era. I can admit that occasionally Packer made a point I thought was interesting. Thanks for telling us about the problem. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.

I know this book is wildly acclaimed, but both my husband and I could not get through it. Keith Foster rated it it was ok Jul 25, Although I appreciated some of the concepts- I thought it was a very dry read.
Ultimately, I think this book spends conociebdo much time looking back and not enough looking forward. Ronald rated it did not like it Jul 24, It answered questions I didn’t know how to word and expressed my own self absorbed crippled state.
For me, this book started off very well. Explaining both who God is and how we can relate to him, Packer divides his book into three sections: See all 3 questions about Conociendo a Dios…. Without God everything is a bore; He alone can catch our imagination and claim our allegiance without jii.packer. I have read Packer before, and find him to be a bit stuffy and ‘high minded’. The homeless and needy need to “know God”, the emotionally driven spiritualists “know God” from a religious experience, and many churches throw around the phrase in a way that does not encourage true intimacy and knowledge, but a cliche.
I think I would have enjoyed this book quite a bit more if I hadn’t spent six months reading.
