All of the stories, whether fiction or personal essays, are written from the first person point of view. None of the stories are bad, but they’re not amazingly great either; however, I found the four essays that conclude this book much more engaging than the short stories that take up the majority of the book.
Deadpan exaggeration gives this first collection a satirical edge. The one gem is the final piece, barrrl now famous SantaLand Diaries, chronicling his experiences as a year-old working as an elf at Macy’s elaborate holiday display.

Instead of saying a cliche a second time to emphasize it, people should just say something original once if they really want to grab their listener’s attention. I feel like I’ve run into these types all too often. Would I recommend this author? It works well as a paper-weight.
Distancing himself from both parents, Dale tries not to rock the boat while keeping some secrets to himself. Il primo libro di Sedaris che io abbia letto, e rischia di restare l’unico. This is Sedaris’ first book and IMO it’s obvious. The satirical take on many of modern culture’s own vices and embarrassments are not in any way tired or obnoxious, in fact, they feel fresh and calculated despite the book being over 20 years aedaris at this point. Secaris it from the library, commit Santaland Diaries to memory, and ignore the rest.
