The overbearing, creepy religious overtones and unplanned pregnancy don’t fit at all with what I recall of the film’s atmosphere and themes. When the audio came up for free, I jumped on the chance, because I loved Dean Koontz back in the day.

Dean Koontz Goodreads Author. The characters aren’t the richly developed people that I’ve come to take for granted in his books. I would give it four stars for readability if that’s all I were rating it on. I think only VC Funhouss could have pulled of such story with grace; she’s the queen of trashy books after all. After talking for two weeks they got married and lived the carnie life, traveling around the country. It starts out straight to the point of the story and makes you want to read more.

In fact, the book doesn’t even have them planning to stay in the funhouse at all again, this might be Koontz trying to minimize how far-fetched it isjust riding it like they did any other ride when it breaks down and instantly being menaced by the father and son team.
That’s fine at the movies, but I just expect a little more from my reading material, especially someone like Koontz. Try as she might, Amy could never measure up to her mother’s expectations of her, and when she became pregnant, Ellen was certain that the evil she anticipated had shown itself in her daughter.
Even that funhoues a big disappointment, as the book just kind of ends, fumhouse much unbelievable hoopla, that is. But it beats translating the script word for word, that’s for sure.
