Did I like him? For a majority of this book, I could barely stand Callie Rose. Sephy was also annoying; you would think that she wouldn’t be so quick to judge and separate Callie and Tobias after her own experiences with Callie. Tobey wants a better life – for him and his girlfriend Callie Rose. For me personally, the ending feels a little open, as if there could, some day, be more to come, although I really don’t think Blackman could surpass herself this time!
Double Cross moves at a good pace and kept me turning the pages!

At the beginning of Checkmate, Callie Rose is already 16 years old. This is a highly intelligent thriller with important things to say, and once again the distance between Blackman’s imagined world and present-day inner city is beautifully judged. And this is what takes the book beyond the moment, giving it a timeless value.

Can’t say that I’m not disappointed. Sephy or her full name Persephone Hadley is a Cross, with dark skin, and the daughter of a wealthy senior politician, Kamal Hadley – who later takes office as president. View all posts by geekandbooknerd. I was sad that the trilogy didn’t end with Checkmate. This does give us a bit of background information in terms of Callie Rose’s grudge against Sephy, however, it did not allow me to fully sympathise with Callie Rose as a character until the blackmzn end of the book.

Coss Blackman artfully explores the horrid truths of modern society and exposes them for what they are. This my favourite series of books ever. An attempt to provoke xouble and to revisit the absurdities of a society ies run along lines on racial disadvantagement and the domination of one ethnic group or groups in society by another controlling ethnic almost always white group.
Although he loathes Crosses, he begins to fall in love with her. Sephy threatens to kill him if he hurts her child, but she later pleads with Jude to leave both of them alone.
Jude takes Callie Rose to Kamal’s house. Sephy watches the trapdoor open and sees Callum’s limp, lifeless body hanging from the noose. As this latest novel begins, year-old Callie is struggling to come to terms with a bomb blast that killed her grandmother Jasmine and dangerous uncle Jude.
