I can see why people would want to try it. I thought the interspersion of journal entries and articles was an excellent balance between these two aspects of the greater story of Ecotopia.

Overall, callenbahc presented some interesting ideas and concepts, but I would say that Ernest Callenbach took an easy, whitewashed way out when it came to presenting how racial harmony coexists in Ecotopian society. The author does his best to answer this question, and I enjoyed reading about it and thinking my own thoughts about the nature of human sexuality, and admiring the author’s chutzpah for trying this one on.
What he allows economically he has to forbid politically: All the important issues being discussed today were addressed here in the 70s. But without these alternate visions, we get stuck on dead center. Truly a must read, though, because Ecotppia surely also knew as much himself.
