They made most of the book unreadable in the module because otherwise they’d have to reprint I Strahd, which is impractical for publishing purposes. Trivia About I, Strahd: Here, we see a man of honor — albeit a cold and calculating sort of honor.

The rest of the novel is basically Van Richten reading the journal. If the other entries in the series are anything like this, I’m going to be indisposed for a bit. I really did like how the story was told. When he arrives at his newly acquired castle his younger brother is there to greet him along with memlirs of the locals.

Tatyana isn’t possessed of any real character – she shows up, she’s pretty, it is established that some dudes really want to bang her AND put a ring on it despite her personality being equivalent to a luke-warm meat pie, and vamprie is boringly polite. The first third was apprehensive reading but once past that section, I could not vaampire.
The plot covers Strahd’s background, his choice to become a vampire, and his path from that choice to his weird existence surrounded by zombies in a trashed castle. I would read this one again. Everything clicked with this instalment – the narrative, the characterisations, the pacing, everything.
I’m pretty sure the Tome of Strahd is a direct reference to the novel. This is when he is approached by what he considers “death itself”, and is promised that he will have all of his hearts desires for a price; in his weekend state he accepts. The Memoirs of a Vampire by P.

Character development was flat and cardboard, and I found it hard to invest emotionally fo anyone. This book didn’t disappoint. Yet I had strayed from the Ravenloft books for years because I imagined them to be something different.
I don’t go looking for vampire books like some of these obsessive zealots. At the risk of spoiling what happens, Sttahd, using dark magic, turns into a vampire and just destroys these men that killed off the wedding party guests. Not a bad book actually, though a little slow.
It is darker than the current genre of vampire novels and even though it was written by a lady author seems to have a very masculine point of view. Even at his most loathsome, though, his honor drives him to protect the weak or at least the loyal and drives him to brutal revenge not only in his own name, but in the names of s who served him so faithfully. Obviously at home with her subject, Elrod describes, with an uncanny touch for time and place, the ecstasy and horror of an eternal half-life. The mood and the world are awesome.
